Starting where we ended! Cole was diagnosed with pneumonia when she spiked a 103.1 fever. (The Tylenol we carry in the diaper bag brought that down quickly, then she got better real fast once she had some anti-biotics, whew!) Babies are all heart and stomach. :-)

Halloween!!!

We were "King Kong" at my studio's Halloween party on Friday. I was the Empire State Building and Drew had a shirt on that said "Team Kong Special Effects Crew" and he had Matchbox fighter planes hanging from sticks.

Cole, who decided to take an unbelievably solid nap just as it was our turn to go down the aisle for the costume contest parade, was Kong. (the black furry gorilla costume was really warm, so she's not fully zipped up in the first picture.)

Our film however, would have the incredibly non-threatening subtitle of "Sleepy Kong Takes a Nap".

New Doctor's Visit Stats!

Cole just had her check-up and her first shots yesterday! We have a big, healthy baby girl.

She is.... 12 pounds, 14 ounces (in the 90th percentile for her age) and 25 inches long (in the 100th percentile!). Her head circumference is 15 and 3/4 inches around. (she was 14.5 at birth)

So she's growing strong!

IT'S A GIRL!!!

Little Cole Jeanette Johnson joined us 12 days late on Tuesday afternoon, July 15, 2008 at 2:41 pm. She weighed in at 7 lbs 15 oz, and 21 inches long.

We went to the Dr's office on Monday, and he pretty much recommended an induction, with no need to wait any longer, so we went home, packed the car, and went straight off to the hospital!

They started the induction medicines at 7 pm and then 2 am, but nothing started happening until the Dr broke the waters at 4:30 am. Then contractions started a half hour later and we were off!

We came home yesterday and are happy to report that Mom, Dad, and baby are doing just fine.

UPDATE - Week 41 - Baby Still In!

Well as of today we are one week late! So, no baby yet. Baby's still kicking me in the bladder and going "glub glub". My folks are in town a-waitin' and my mom has me walking lots and lots to try to get things going.

Today we went to Disneyland! Lots of walking to be had. If The Colonel was waiting for us to be farther away from the hospital in an inconvenient place, the chance was had today.

We have another Dr's appt on Monday. Last Monday, the Dr said, "Well, we'll make another appt for next Monday, and if we see you then, we'll talk turkey." So if nothing happens this weekend, we may have a scheduled day for something to happen next week. That's our guess. We shall seeeeeeee.

Getting really close! And it looks like things may be getting underway... Our doctor today reported us at 40% and -2. For technical explanations on what that means, go to:

But basically, the doctor said "See you next Monday, or sooner" and the receptionist guy when setting up our next week's appt said "See you Monday, or we'll hear about you."

And the nurse guesses that little The Colonel is about 8 lbs. Crazy!

Edema and Pets

So edema is a common pregnancy thing, which refers to swelling. Do an Google image search for "cankles" and you'll see how it affects the ankles. One test to see if your ankles are swollen to the edema level is to push your finger on your skin and if the imprint remains, you have edema. I've had that for a while now -- it hit during month 6. (I was drying my legs off after a shower and went "what th'--?") Heh.

Buuut, my cat Lucy was sitting in my lap the other day, and then I noticed this when she got up!!

Updates at Week 39!!!

Hiya! Today we have one week to go to the due date! Crazyyy. Last week was my last week at work, and so this past week has been my first week of maternity leave. Here's a couple pictures from the past two weeks. (although I appear to be wearing the same shirt in both of these, they are indeed from different days!!)

Here's my POV looking down. (mostly, anyhow -- I was actually leaning back against the wall a little bit. I can't see my toes at all when I look down now!)

9 months!

I don't think it's quite hit us yet, but we're in the final stretch -- less than a month to go!

Last Thursday I hit 36 weeks. (!!) This week we've started weekly doctor visits. We got a thumbs up at our appt yesterday, so everything is going well. :-)

Work is also good -- yesterday was my last big deadline, so I am hoping to work two more weeks including this one, and then I take my break!

Because of the writer's strike and the Simpsons' voice actors prolonged contract negotiations with Fox (they've finally signed, yayy! but it will be a month before the studio gets fully staffed up again) the studio's been mostly empty for a solid chunk of the year. I love the Retakes Dept -- we haven't had to take any breaks. But I think a lot of my co-workers have had no idea that I've been pregnant. Some folks are starting to trickle back in and they point at my belly and say "Heyyy, lookit you!" ;-)

One designer told me yesterday that when he came back for a couple weeks after the writer's strike in Feb/March he couldn't quite tell if I was pregnant or had just gained weight, and he was pretty sure it was pregnant, but was like "I ain't sayin nothing!"

I was also complimented by one of the guys for being "spry". He said that during the last month of his wife's pregnancy she was all waddling around and tired but that I seemed to still be zipping around the studio and energetic.

Hey, so today our FX artist Rosanna brought her Scotty dog into the studio! She was over at the pencil tester with him when I went to make a photocopy. Another artist Tricia was petting him when I went over saying "Yayy, scotty dog!" So I lean over and pet him and ack! gravity took over!

... Have I mentioned that an effect of pregnancy is extra saliva?

So yes, today, I drooled on a dog instead of the other way around.

Week 30!

We spent an afternoon at Disneyland! We went with our friends Steve & Teresa and their one-year-old Caden. And it was hooooooooooooot. Crazy hot. But it was fun and here's a double-belly shot of Drew and I at the main gate!

Discoveries at the 7 month marker

Friday I think I had my first real taste of what I'm guessing will soon become a staple of a third trimester pregnancy experience... fatigue... whoo!

But much more importantly than that, Thursday night, when Drew and I took a trip to the grocery store on empty stomachs, I made the important discovery that they now make WHOLE GRAIN Pop Tarts! Seriously! They have 3g of fiber per Pop Tart, which means 6g per two-pack. That's equal to a bowl of Grape Nuts!

We had another Dr's appt today! It was zippy zippy. Pee in a cup, heartbeat of baby is good and strong (160), baby's hanging out with the head down, you look good, see you in a month! Then we'll go to Dr's appt's every two weeks, so we must be creeping closer.

Vital stats: the baby's just shy of 3 pounds, and I've gained about 20.

Baby Likes Culture!

Drew and I went to see a production of "Sweeney Todd" at the Ahmanson downtown last night. It was a really interesting version -- only a cast of 10, who were both the actors and the orchestra! They were onstage at all times, playing intruments both when they were playing their characters actively and when their characters were not a part of the scene.

But The Colonel was up and kicking for the majority of the whole first act! That's the longest consecutive activity I've felt so far. Drew had his arm resting against my side and thought I had some crazy indigestion for a sec until he realized what it was. :-P Wild. :-)

3rd Trimester and counting!

Hooray, maternity jeans! (Yayyy Old Navy -- only 32 smackeroos!) This is me a week ago, at 25 weeks. We've officially passed the "100 days to go" mark so we're down to double digit days to go. Now when I'm sitting around and The Colonel gives a good kick, you can see my belly bounce a little. Creeeeeepy. ;-)

Lessee, what else've we got going on -- heartburn, check; randomly swollen ankles, check; ah, that's right -- the newest is the old person grunting sound I emit whenever I lean over to pick up something I've dropped. Ooh! And decreasing lung capacity. (*pant pant why'd we move into a place with stairs gasp pant*) Heh. But all in all everything's going very smoothly and healthily, so hoorah! :-)

Third Trimester Starts With A Vengeance!

We had another Dr's appt today -- which is crazy! This past month zipped by. Plus, I'm at month 6 today! Aaand, sooo, during months 0-4, I gained 8 pounds total, and in month 5 alone now, I've gained 7!! So now I'm up 15. But The Colonel got another clean bill o' health, so all is well!

Cravings: MIA

So I'm having no cravings! ...Well, other than feeling inclined to eat cookies and doughy carbs, but I always love cookies and nice soft bread, so that's no thing. I haven't had any 3 am moments where I make Drew get out of bed and get me something weird RIGHT NOW because I HAVE TO HAVE IT. And I'd really like to make Drew get something at 3 am because when else can you expect to have a shopping request fulfilled at that time of night, and that seems like a lost opportunity.

My un-pregnant friend Nancy says that I could -tell- Drew that I have a craving for something at 3 am, and that he HAS to go out and get it NOW ...and then go drop it off at Nancy's house.

Hey hey! We went for our big ultrasound yesterday! It was exceedingly cool.
:-) The baby was awake and moving around the whole time, posing nicely for the camera. The Colonel got a clean bill of health -- the doctor got to see everything he needed to check and said we were right on track for our due date of July 3rd, and everything looks very healthy!

And, The Colonel's secret remains with The Colonel. We said we didn't want to know the sex, and later on when I asked the doctor if he had figured it out just in the course of the examination, he said, no, he hadn't looked, and in fact, the baby was doing a good job of keeping the secret safe, because he/she had the knees up and together, so it was easy for the doctor not to look.

So sorry guys, it's still a mystery!!

We also got to see The Colonel in action -- right when the doctor moved the camera over and said "There's a foot" right on cue The Colonel pulled back and whacked me in the side with it. Ahhh, -that's- what you're doing in there. ;-)

So according to my doctor's visits, I've gained 8 lbs. total so far. (9 by now, probably, since the last doctor's visit was a week ago.) Pretty good!

Upon re-examining the pictures in the entry below "Long Time No Blog," I've determined that 40% of that weight is baby and 60% of it is boobs.

Baby Likes Mardi Gras!!!!

We went to New Orleans for Mardi Gras and our first night there I felt The Colonel move around for the first time! I was laying on my stomach on our hotel bed. My mom says that The Colonel was saying "Get off of me!"

It felt like a small muscle twitch, like when your eye kinda twitches involuntarily. Crazy!! But very exciting. :-D

Here's three pictures from our trip -- one with me where you can actually see my belly (week 18)(and my pants falling down, classy) with Itza, Sierra, & Nancy, Drew with Edwin (married to Itza), and one of Drew eating some kind of mystery food. Long Time No Blog

Hey, we got some updates! Now we're at Week 21. All is going well! Month 4 was great, nice and smooth, woop woop! It's now month 5 and it looks like the belly's starting to pop. Here's two pictures of me -- one at week 15 and the second is from today. I actually am starting to look pregnant!

It should be fun when folks start coming back to the studio after their writers' strike hiatuses -- they'll be like "Um... are you... ??" Hee hee hee. :-)
